Quacking for a Montevallo club

The Montevallo Boys and Girls club will be adopting rubber ducks for a cause until April 23.

The club will be participating in the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama’s first Rubber Duck Regatta May 1 at the Alabama Adventure theme park.

During the regatta, about 10,000 adopted ducks will race on Alabama Adventure’s Warrior River, and the owners of the winning ducks will receive several prizes, including season passes to Alabama Adventure, gift cards and a $5,000 grand prize.

Although it is the newest and smallest chapter in the Central Alabama region, the Montevallo Boys and Girls Club is seeking to raise more money than all other area chapters, according to Montevallo club member Jaxon Butterworth.

“We need your help to show the other clubs that we can pack a punch when it comes to raising money,” Butterworth wrote in a press release. “Our goal is to arrange the adoption of more ducks than any other club in Central Alabama.”

The club will be selling single ducks for $5, six ducks for $25, 12 ducks for $50 and 25 ducks for $100.

All money the Montevallo club raises through selling ducks will support the chapter’s activities.
