Cornerstone softball wins ninth straight to open season

Cornerstone Christian School pitcher Chelsey Dunnaway fired a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts to lead the Chargers to their ninth-consecutive victory with a 2-1 win over Glenwood Academy in high school softball action March 23.

Allie Toney finished with a double and drove in a run for the Chargers, who improved to 9-0 overall. Katie Watts had a single and drove in a run.

Oak Mountain 20, Homewood 0

Regan Wade led the Eagles (8-9) with six RBIs. Leah Reeve finished with four RBIs, including a three-run homer. Nicole Kehr finished with four hits and drove in three runs. Cadie Renta finished with four hits, Julie Moss had a solo homer and Caroline Seitz had two RBIs.

Montevallo 2, Maplesville 1

Kaylan Davis gave up one run on six hits with one strikeout and five walks. Savanna Smith finished with two hits and scored a run for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-1 overall.

Spain Park 2, Sumiton Christian 1

Channing Haynes had a triple and drove in a run for the Jaguars, who improved to 13-14 overall. Hannah Camp had a double. Lauren Tant, Dekayla Sankey and April Scott had a hit each.

Haynes picked up the win on the mound.
