The University of Montevallo baseball team snapped its 15-game losing streak March 24 with a 9-3 win over visiting University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The Falcons (7-22) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they led 6-0 after the first two innings. Montevallo was led by senior Chris Sosebee, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of homers, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Freshman Austin Dubberly was 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

The Falcons used seven pitchers on the day with senior Justin Aaron getting the start. Aaron gave up just two hits in four innings while striking out two and walking two. Junior Joey Noro earned the win as he pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief with a strikeout.

The Falcons scored three runs in both the first and second inning. Senior Kevin Garcia drove in the first run as he hit a sacrifice fly to right field, which scored Duston Daugherty after he led off with a hit by pitch. Sosebee then hit a two-run home run to left field to put the Falcons ahead 3-0.

In the second inning, a pair of Montevallo hits and two errors by the Chargers led to three more runs for the Falcons. Dubberly picked up his first RBI of the game as he doubled down the left field line to score junior Scottie Deason. Montevallo’s other two runs came off of errors.

The Falcons added to their lead in the fourth, as Dubberly singled home sophomore Josh Headley. The Chargers finally answered in the sixth as they scored one run in the top half of the inning.

Montevallo responded with a solo run in both the sixth and seventh to go up 9-1. Daugherty singled home senior Andy Revell in the sixth, while Sosebee led off the seventh with a solo home run.

The Chargers scored two runs in the eighth, but that would be all they could muster.

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 27 at 11:30 a.m. as they travel to Armstrong Atlantic State University for a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader.
