Thomas McCarty

Thomas William McCarty was born Sept. 25, 1942, and died March 28, 2010, after an extended illness.
He was a resident of Clanton and formerly a long-time resident of Hueytown, Mr. McCarty was originally from Birmingham. He was a graduate of Jones Valley High School, attended Howard College and retired from JC Penny department store and Ernest McCarty Ford. He was a member of Hueytown Baptist Church, a Mason and a Shriner and an enthusiastic fan of Nascar and Alabama football. Tom was kind, loving and generous.
Mr. McCarty was predeceased by his parents, Ernest Lee McCarty, Sr. and Irene Shaw McCarty.
Survivors include wife, Ann Till McCarty, of Clanton, daughter Dora
Jo “Dodie” Lewis (Michael) of Hoover, and her children Amanda “Mandy”
Gibbs (Kourey) and Matthew Lewis; stepdaughter Annette Carter and her son Shane Sammons, and her grandsons Christian and Joseph Sammons; stepson David Till; sisters Joyce McCarty Kirkley, of Guntersville, Thelma McCarty O’Quinn (G. Brown), of Chestersfield, Va., and brother Ernest L. McCarty, Jr. (Enda), of Vestavia Hills.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation Thursday, April 1, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, Clanton, with a memorial service Friday, April 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the chapel. The Rev. G. Brown O’Quinn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zamora Shrine Temple, Children’s Hospital Fund.
