Oak Mountain one win away from section title with win over Gardendale

The Oak Mountain High School boys’ soccer team is one win away from claiming the Class 6A, Section 5 title outright following a 10-0 win over Gardendale in high school soccer action April 15.

The Eagles will host Hoover in their final Class 6A, Section 5 contest April 20 at 7 p.m. Oak Mountain (12-3, 8-1 in Class 6A, Section 5) can seal the Section 5 championship with a win over the Bucs.

Eight different players scored a goal in the Eagles’ win over Gardendale.

Taylor Harris and Reid Biasco scored two goals each to pace Oak Mountain.

D.J. Jackson, Patrick Markey, Colin Sandlin, Zach Rodivich, Anthonty McGreer and J.C. Sandel scored one goal each.

Spain Park 2, Pinson Valley 1

Jack O’Neil and Tyler Cook scored one goal each for the Jaguars, who improved to 8-10-2 overall.

Goalkeepers Spencer Jack and Brandon Mullis recorded six saves each.

Calera 2, Walker 1

Henoko Lubala scored both goals for the Eagles, who improved to 12-7 overall.

Christian Alverenga and Francisco Martinez recorded an assist each.

GIRLS

Chelsea 2, Moody 0

Madison Gowins and Kaity Potter scored one goal each for the Hornets, who improved to 8-7-1 overall.

Goalkeeper Amanda Weygand recorded one save.
