Fans of the History Channel, HBO and PBS will get a chance to learn more about the history behind some of the networks’ most popular shows April 19 at the Parnell Memorial Library.

The Montevallo library will host “Sledgehammer: Recollections of E.B. Sledge” at 7 p.m. April 19 at the library’s theater.

The event will focus on the late Dr. E.B. Sledge’s book “With the Old Breed: At Pelelui and Okinawa,” which served as a source for History Channel shows, “The War” on PBS and “The Pacific” on HBO.

Sledge was a longtime biology professor at the University of Montevallo, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II.

Clark Hultquist will moderate the event, which will feature Sledge’s son, Henry, UM history professors Ruth Truss and Jim Day and UM graduate student Kouri Allen. The UM Chamber Singers will also perform during the event.

The discussion is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the library at 665-9207.
