Funeral service for Milton White, age 81, of Columbiana, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Columbiana United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mr. White passed away after a lengthy illness Thursday, April 22, 2010, at his home. Milton was an active member of Columbiana United Methodist Church and Luther Fowler Sunday School Class. He actively participated in Skillet Bird Toy Fund and helped raise money annually.
He was an avid sports enthusiast with golf being his love after retirement. He was a member of the University of Southern Mississippi Football Team, where he was captain. He coached high school and junior college football in Mississippi and ended his coaching career at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La.
He began a sporting goods sales agency in which he ultimately retired to spend time fishing and golfing. He is preceded in death by his son, Dr. Milton F. “Luke” White Jr. of Hoover; his parents, Walter B. White Sr. and Barbara D. White of Columbiana and his sister, Mrs. Elvin Hill (Wylodine) of Columbiana.
He is survived by his wife, Gay White; son, Walter James (Jim) White of Birmingham; daughter, Mrs. Stephen Kneipp (Julie) of Laurel, Miss.; grandchildren, Nathan, Ryan and Tripp White, Jamie and Jordan White, Mark and Brandon Kneipp; brothers, Bill B. White, Walter B. White Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Skillet Bird Toy Funds, Columbiana United Methodist Church, Columbiana, AL 35051.
