A University of Montevallo alumni and Broadway star will address the school’s newest graduates during UM’s May 8 graduation ceremony.

Rebecca Luker, who graduated from UM in 1984, will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony, which will be held at 9 a.m. at the school’s Flowerhill lawn.

Luker has appeared in plays, movies and television shows for more than a decade, and has earned several awards.

She recently played Mrs. Banks in the Broadway production of “Mary Poppins,” and she has appeared in the television shows “Matlock” and “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and the Hallmark Channel movie “Cupid and Cate.”

She has been nominated for three Tony Awards, and has been inducted into the Alabama Stage and Screen Hall of Fame.

During the UM graduation ceremony, school officials will award Luker an honorary doctorate.
