The Alabaster Fire and Rescue Service will be holding a child safety seat checkpoint Thursday, May 6 at Station No. 3 from 1:30-3 p.m.

Station No. 3 is located at 910 First Street S., just two blocks north of the Interstate 65 interchange on U.S. 31.

Firefighters will be installing and examining child safety seats for correct installation. The service is free.

“Motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of kids in the United States. Many injuries and deaths can be prevented by properly using car seats,” said Alabaster Fire Lt. Ched Burton. “With four out of five seats misused, Alabaster firefighters provide a valuable service to parents and caregivers concerned with safe transport of their most precious cargo.”

The checkpoint is a joint venture between the Alabaster Fire and Rescue Service and Children’s Hospital.
