Spain Park girls golf team qualifies for state tournament

The defending Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A girls’ golf champion Spain Park High School qualified for the state tournament following a Class 6A sub-state tournament May 4 at the Auburn University Golf Course.

The Jaguars, who will play in the Class 6A state tournament May 10-11 at the Robert Trent Jones’ Hampton Cove course in Huntsville, finished second at the sub-state tournament with a score of 243, which left Spain Park two strokes behind tournament winner Auburn.

Defending Class 6A individual champion Hannah Collier led the Jaguars and finished second overall at the sub-state tournament with a 5-over par 77. Morgan Natale carded a 10-over par 82, Lakin Eddy shot an 84 and Caroline Gurley finished with a score of 97.

Oak Mountain finished fifth at the sub-state tournament and failed to qualify for the state tournament. Blair Casebere shot an 85 to lead the Eagles. Taylor Casebere finished with an 86.

Molly Buckley carded a 95 and Kirsten Keasler finished with a 116.

Thompson’s Amanda White shot a 92 at the sub-state tournament playing as an individual qualifier.
