Montevallo postal carriers stamping out hunger

Published 12:31 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2010

The Montevallo Post Office will be working to help those in need while collecting mail throughout the city May 8.

Montevallo mail carriers will be collecting non-perishable food items from mailboxes along their routes, and will be donating all food items they collect to Shelby Emergency Assistance in Montevallo.

The collection will be part of the U.S. Postal Service’s Stamp Out Hunger drive, which will be taking place across the country.

Anyone who wants to participate in the food drive should place non-perishable food items by their mailboxes early on May 8 to ensure they are collected by the mail carriers.

Shelby Emergency Assistance will use the food donations to help Shelby County residents who are facing short-term crises and homelessness.
