Thanks to a $3 million grant from the Walmart Foundation, The Arc of the United States is awarding grants to 45 chapters of The Arc across the U.S.

The Arc of Shelby County is the recipient of one of those grants. Partnering with the Shelby County School System, The Arc of Shelby County will assist high school students with significant disabilities and their families in becoming more knowledgeable about state and local resources, planning for the future and developing community life skills.

“We are extremely pleased to have been selected as a subgrant site for the Walmart Foundation School to Community Transition Project and are especially grateful for the support of the Shelby County School System,” said Karen Stokes, executive director of The Arc of Shelby County. “This grant will allow our chapter to participate in a national initiative to better prepare students with disabilities for life following high school.”
