Bettie Jane Benson

Bettie Jane Stubbs Benson, lovingly known as “Nana B” and “Mama B” passed away May 9, 2010, at the age of 77.
Bettie was born to W.B. (Bill) Stubbs Sr. and Lula Mae White Stubbs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 49 years, Ted W. Benson and her second son, Blake Benson.
She is survived by her son, Will Benson (fiance’ Debbi Miller) of Pleasant Grove; daughters, Rebecca Layfield (Jim) of the Mt. Era community near Columbiana and Robin Light (Tim) of Lubbock Texas; daughter-in-law, Beverly Meadors (Dwight) of Pelham; brother, W.B. (Bill) Stubbs Jr. (Joyce) of Laguna Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law, Dr. M.L. “Lew” Benson (Doris) of Guntersville; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Bettie was a graduate of West End High School. She was a faithful member of Mt. Era United Methodist Church and had been a dedicated employee of The George S. Edwards Company for more than 40 years, where she still worked full time until March 2010. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Pelham. A graveside funeral service will be Thursday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at the Mt. Era Cemetery on Highway 26 between Alabaster and Columbiana. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the start of service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Mt. Era United Methodist Church, 339 Arabian Road, Columbiana, AL 35051.
