Seven residents of the Shelby Ridge Nursing Home–Rehab Select competed for the title of Ms. Shelby Ridge May 6, but it was Janet Ratliff who took home the title.

Ratliff, who was born in Cullman and grew up in the Central Park area of Birmingham, has lived at Shelby Ridge for three years.

Ratliff is no stranger to pageant titles, as she was also crowned Ms. Wheelchair Alabama in 2000.

Jennie Guarino, a Shelby Ridge resident of 2 ½ years, was first runner-up, while Lucille Parker finished as the second runner-up.

Alline Dodson, 102, finished as the third runner-up.

Contestants Ruth Glass, Willie Faye Champion and Johnnie Whitehead were also recognized, as Glass was named Ms. Best Dressed, Champion was named Ms. Congeniality and Whitehead was named Ms. Best Smile.

Patricia Bradberry, last year’s Ms. Shelby Ridge and Ms. Nursing Alabama first runner-up, crowned Ratliff and wished her the best.

“This past year has been one of the best years of my life,” Bradberry said. “I wish you the best as the new Ms. Shelby Ridge.”
