Community and school involvement, dedication and maintaining a high grade point average recently helped a Vincent High School student earn a spot on a national honor society.

The Atlanta-based National Society of High School Scholars recently named Keri Shaw, a Harpersville resident and sophomore at VHS, one of its newest members.

To be selected to the program, Shaw had to maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average, and had to be nominated by VHS counselor Melissa Hadder.

“She has always been a high achiever without us really having to push her,” said Keri Shaw’s mother, Tammy. “I am definitely a proud mother.”

Since she was selected to the program, Keri is now eligible to receive scholarships, network with other students selected to the society and receive outreach from some of the top colleges in the world.

Keri is a VHS varsity cheerleader, a member of the Beta Club and is involved in many other school and community activities, Tammy said.

“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Keri Shaw has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said Claes Nobel, the society’s founder and chairman.

“Keri is now a member of a unique community of scholars – a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”

“We aim to help students like Keri build on their academic successes and enhance the skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global community,” said NSHSS President James Lewis.
