The Alabaster City Council heaped praise on Mary Roensch of Farris Management Co. Inc. May 6 during the council meeting for taking care of the roads in the Sterling Gate and Cedar Grove subdivisions.

The council voted to release the bond on the roads, as Roensch pledged to provide the city with a one-year warranty to fix any road problems before the city takes possession of the roads in 2011.

City council member Tommy Ryals said Roensch even approached the city to inform them that she was proactively laying down roads in areas where housing construction has stalled.

“She sets an example that I wish everyone would follow, Ryals said. “She built her roads the right way, in sharp contrast to many of our other developers.”

Ryals said the city is currently weighing options on taking action against 10-12 developers in the city who haven’t fixed their roads properly or who have gone bankrupt.

Council member Rick Walters said he wished the other developers would follow Roensch’s lead.

“This is an exemplary neighborhood and I wish we had more developers like you,” Walters said to Roensch.

Council President Jim McClain said it was nice for the council to not have to keep imploring Roensch to fix problems.

“When you have an issue, you take care of it,” McClain said.
