Hoping to add to the already festive summer atmosphere, Morgan Creek Winery in Harpersville plans to host Art in the Vineyards May 15 as a means of kicking off this summer’s Music and Fireworks events.

“Morgan Creek is always looking at new ways to reach out to the community and invite people down to the vineyards,” said spokesperson Laurel Mills. “An art show seemed like a great way to do that. We are also excited to welcome established artists as well as emerging artists and craftspeople from the community.”

Mills said the winery wanted to showcase local talents in all forms – visual and lyrical. The event will include just that – Artists will display their work from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. while acoustic artists, Stuart McNair and Mike Creager, perform. the band FischerGreen will perform at 7 p.m. Several artists plan to actually demonstrate their work while there.

Art Bacon said his education led him to science. His passion for art never let go however.

“Art in the Vinyards sounds right –– and is the perfect place for an art show for both the artists and those who appreciate art,” he said.

He also plans to paint on site and take photographs for future paintings.

Other artists making their way to the winery include Elizabeth Sanfelippo.

Sanfelippo grew up in Birmingham. Now that she has moved back, she said she’s interested in becoming more involved in the community.

“My watercolor and acrylic works primarily focus on color, texture and aspects of nature. Many of the pieces reflect a subdued use of color and texture, inviting the viewer to look with greater attention and investigate the minuscule details,” she said. “Some of the works explore the gentle color shifts in nature and seek to emphasize the subtlety of those shifts. The progression of time effects each of the pieces in different ways, water and its transitions from wet to dry, brushstrokes as they are applied from one day to the next, the reactions between water and a color medium or dye, and the inevitable decay.

Sanfelippo also works with textiles reclaiming scrap pieces of upholstery. Those remnants become pillows, curtains and purses.

Jack Lincoln finds his craft as a silversmith. He’s worked in wood for 25 years.

He works in silver, copper, aluminum and nickel. Both he and his wife are creative. Jean Lincoln paints in acrylics and oils.

To see all of these artists, tickets are $10. The ticket also covers a complimentary winery tour and tasting, live music and fireworks.
