Calera Police arrested a man in the Emerald Ridge Subdivision May 18 after receiving a report of suspicious activity in the neighborhood.

A neighborhood resident called authorities at about 10:30 a.m. to report a suspicious vehicle was backed into a driveway in the subdivision.

A Calera Police patrol officer arrived on the scene “within seconds of the initial call,” and observed Edward Jerome Nettles Jr., wearing gloves, in the doorway of the residence with the suspicious vehicle, according to a Calera Police Department press release.

When the officer arrived, the suspect fled the scene and broke into another occupied house in the same neighborhood. Police located the suspect and arrested him shortly after he broke into the second house.

As of May 19, police had not brought any charges against Nettles, pending further investigation by the department.
