The Helena Police Department has arrested a 34-year-old woman in connection with a May 16 stabbing in the Chadwick neighborhood off Shelby County 261.

Police arrested Isabella Cowan at her residence in the 200 block of Chadwick Lane in Helena without incident at about 2 p.m. May 18. She has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

The arrest came two days after paramedics transported her husband, 32-year-old Joshua Cowan, to UAB Hospital with stab wounds to the chest. As of May 18, he was in critical, but stable, condition, according to Helena Police Department Deputy Chief Tim Carter.

Isabella Cowan is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

According to Helena Police, Joshua Cowan suffered a stab wound to his chest at about 5:45 p.m. May 16 before he “staggered” to a neighbor’s house and requested the neighbor call 911.

Paramedics then responded to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital, where he was rushed into emergency surgery.
