The Indian Springs School choir and the Alabama Symphony Orchestra are collaborating again for the 30th year to put on a joint concert in the school’s concert hall on May 23 at 3 p.m.

“It’s been going on so long because the idea just makes sense,” said Indian Springs choir director Tim Thomas. “We do a major work that requires orchestral accompaniment, and it’s great for the students to hear the music the way it’s meant to be performed—by an orchestra.”

Students in the ISS choir are in grades 8-12 and spend all year preparing for the concert. Both the choir and the 30 ASO members who will join them have done an impressive job getting ready for the event. The choir practices all year for the concert and actually performs the Latin “Stravinksy’s Symphony of Psalms” from memory.

“The ASO is a professional orchestra,” said Thomas. “They’ll join us for just one rehearsal on Thursday and be ready to perform.

The event is free, open to the public and should last about half an hour.
