Alabaster Police assisted members of the Texas Equusearch team and Hueytown Police in the search of a missing man in the Hueytown area June 4, and a body was recovered from the water.

Chief Stanley Oliver said Alabaster Police received a call from a concerned family member May 30 in response to a missing man, Larry Shaw, 58, who originally went missing May 28.

Oliver said 60-80 Alabaster residents have been searching the Virginia Mines area of Hueytown, and the Texas Equusearch team combed a lake there Friday.

A message on the Hueytown Police Department’s Facebook page said a body was pulled from the water Friday.

“Hueytown Police Department Chief Hagler regrets to announce that a body has been recovered from the search site on Virginia Drive,” read the post. “The Hueytown Police Department will be making no further comments or announcements until the identification process is complete.”

Several members of the Alabaster Police Department have been assisting in the search, and more were deployed to help in the water search.

According to the Texas Equusearch website, Shaw was last seen near Virginia Drive at approximately 11 a.m., while wearing navy blue dress pants and a beige golf shirt with Long Lewis Ford on the left breast.

Shaw has scars on his right cheek, right arm and around his neck.

Oliver said police have not ruled out any scenario, but Shaw left behind his car keys and his wallet.

“It doesn’t sound good, but hopefully we will find him,” Oliver said.
