Twenty Shelby County high school baseball and softball standouts were recently named to the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s All-State teams.

Twelve baseball players were recognized by the ASWA. Pelham High School junior Trevor Fitts was named the Class 6A Pitcher of the Year and Shelby County HIgh School senior Braten Dill was selected as the Class 5A Pitcher of the Year.

Teammates Tripp Martin, Michael Bishop and Andrew Bishop joined Fitts on the Class 6A All-State team. Pelham’s Trae Santos and Oak Mountain’s Cary Baxter were honorable mention selections.

Briarwood Christian senior David Woods was an honorable mention pick in Class 5A. Trent Posey of Calera was a honorable mention selection in Class 4A.

Coosa Valley Academy senior Gage Holmes was named a first-team first baseman on the ASWA’s Alabama Independent Schools Association team. Teammates Daniel Kennedy and Phillip Neal were named honorable mention picks.

Eight softball players were recognized by the ASWA. Cornerstone Christian School senior Chelsea Dunnaway was named the AISA’s Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year.

Cornerstone’s Destiny Dillard was selected as the AISA team’s first baseman. Teammate Kailey Goodwin was an honorable mention pick. Whitney Gillespie of Kingwood Christian was also selected to the first team AISA team.

Kingwood’s Karley Chamblee and Kaylyn Ingram were both selected as honorable mention picks.
