Shelby County athletes win gold in Alabama Sports Festival competition

Several Shelby County athletes won a gold medal in Alabama Sports Festival competition June 18-20.

The First-Timers bowling squad of Indian Springs won a gold medal in bowling competition.

Donnie Sisk of Helena captured a gold medal in disc golf action.

Three youth gymnasts from Shelby County won a gold medal. Ashley B. Kiel of Pelham won a gold medal in vault and the all-around in her division. Kiel earned silver in balance beam, bars and floor competition.

Emily Britton of Sterrett won a gold medal in the all-around, balance beam, floor and vault competitions in her age division. Britton picked up a silver medal in the bars competition.

Kaia J. Nemeth of Helena won a gold medal in the vault competition in her age division. She also picked up a silver medal in balance beam and a bronze medal in floor competition.

Maylene’s Felipe Bastos earned the gold medal as he led the field in the men’s triathlon. Bruce Carter of Helena picked up a gold medal in the men’s 50-54 age division in the triathlon.

Sheree L. Birkback of Chelsea won two gold medals in swimming competition. Lawson Peoples of Chelsea won two bronze medals in swimming. Nick Warner of Birmingham won a gold medal in diving.

Noah Hall of Shelby won two gold medals in the BMX bike racing competition. Stephen McDonald of Columbiana won a silver medal.

The Old Wednesday soccer team of Chelsea, coached by Phillip Patel, won a gold medal in the adult soccer competition. The Birmingham Vipers 14-and-under squad of Pelham, led by Jeff Gillespie, won a gold medal in softball competition.

Selina Curren of Pelham, David Hawthorne of Maylene, Terry Abbott of Wilsonville, Heather Lawley of Montevallo and Sammy Richardson of Helena won gold medals in various shooting competitions.

Lacey Marcus of Alabaster, Austin Davis of Helena, Jordan Jones of Helena, Emmanual Edwards of Alabaster, Kolbi Reed of Alabaster, Elaina Murray of Pelham, Paul Stramaglia of Pelham, Mario Davis of Pelham, Abby Taylor of Alabaster, Jamar Brockington of Alabaster, Caitland Smith of Pelham, Walker Lyles of Calera, Cameron Covingon of Pelham, Korynn Claiborn of Alabaster, Sianna Nelson of Alabaster, Kyle Harrell of Calera, Hendry Davis of Calera, Jalen McMillan of Pelham, Jalen Smith of Pelham, Landon A. Jones of Calera, James Ardis of Pelham, Michelle Mayer of Pelham, M.J. Brown of Pelham, Vicki Gater of Pelham, James Jackson of Pelham, Rob Johnson of Pelham, Christean Covington of Pelham and Jarrett Maye of Pelham each won medals in track and field competiton.

Andy Mullins of Helena won a silver medal in the boys’ youth triathlon. Pelham’s Savannah Strange won a bronze medal in the girls’ youth triathlon.

Craig N. Ethride and Luke A. Carter of Columbiana won silver medals in the archery and bowhunting competition.

Keep Getting It of Calera won a bronze medal in team bowling competition. King Pins of Pelham won a silver medal in team bowling.

Devin H. Dowdle of Indian Springs won a silver medal in individual bowling competition. Jermaine Johnson of Calera won a silver medal and Konnor George of Helena won a bronze medal in individual bowling.

Alabaster’s Illiyan P. Arabov won a bronze medal in table tennis competition.

Brenda J. Hines of Montevallo received the Medal of Distinction from the Alabama Sports Festival at the Opening Ceremony gor the games June 18 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex.

The Oak Mountain High School football team competed in the Alabama Sports Festival’s first ever 7-on-7 football competition, but the Eagles failed to place in the top three against a field of other high school football teams from around the state.
