County soccer stars help North defeat South

Four high school boys’ soccer standouts from Shelby County helped the North to a 7-1 win over the South to kick off the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s 14th annual All-Star Sports Week July 12.

Chris Burris of Briarwood Christian School, Jack O’Neil of Spain Park High School, Phillip Dublin of Pelham High School and John Imwalle of Oak Mountain High School, all rising seniors, played in the all-star game at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.

Burris and Imwalle finished with one assist each. Dublin finished with two shots on goal. O’Neil fired one shot in the game.

Pelham High School boys’ soccer coach Patrick McDonald was a member of the North coaching staff.

Alex Morton of Hoover High School led the North with three goals and was named the game’s most valuable player.

The North boys now hold a 6-3-1 edge over the South in the series.

Four girls’ soccer standouts from Shelby County played for the North in a 3-2 loss to the South.

Dabney Hofammann of Indian Springs School, Megan Dancy of Oak Mountain High School, Lauren Swee of Chelsea High School and Ally Jennings of Briarwood Christian School participated in the all-star game at John Hunt Park in Huntsville.

Annalika Steyn of Spain Park High School was also chosen for the all-star game. Steyn couldn’t participate in the game due to a prior commitment to her club soccer team.

All girls’ soccer standouts chosen for the all-star game are rising seniors.

Thompson High School girls’ soccer coach Nathan Button and Indian Springs School girls’ soccer coach Hunter Gray were members of the North coaching staff.

Courtney Hurt of Grissom and Abby Allen of Sylacauga scored one goal each for the North.

Tyler King of UMS-Wright scored two goals for the South and was named the game’s most valuable player.

The North still holds a 7-2-1 edge in the series despite the loss.
