Montevallo players and coach honored by Gulf South Conference

Three former University of Montevallo men’s basketball players and current head coach Danny Young received All-Decade awards from the Gulf South Conference.

The Falcons won three conference titles and two South Region titles during their run in their former conference.

Montevallo guard Marcus Kennedy (2003-07) earned the men’s GSC East Division Player of the Decade award. Kennedy helped the Falcons to the South Region title in 2007 with a half-court, buzzer beater. He was a First Team All-American and two-time GSC East Player of the Year. His 2,173 career points are third all-time in GSC annuls and he currently holds nine school records.

Kennedy is joined by guards James Hall (2004-06) and Greg Brown (2005-07) on the GSC First-Team All-Decade team. Hall was a two-time All-American and was named the 2006 GSC East Division Player of the Year. Brown was named twice to the All-GSC East Division team while being named an All-American in his senior season (2007).

Montevallo head coach Danny Young was named the GSC East Division Coach of the Decade. In six seasons before the school left the GSC, Young won 133 games, making the GSC Tournament every season. The Falcons won the GSC title three times and the South Region title twice. Young was also named GSC Coach of the Year from 2005-07 and was named Region Coach of the Year in 2007.
