MONTEVALLO — Shelby County Schools Superintendent Randy Fuller announced Aug. 18 that all three Montevallo schools have increased enrollment this year.

Fuller spoke at the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce meeting in the Parnell Memorial Library, emphasizing the growth and positive change in Montevallo schools.

“The Montevallo zone for the first time in a lot of years has increased enrollment at every school,” he said. “Things are very positive here and we have dynamic leaders.”

Montevallo Elementary’s enrollment saw an increase of five, Montevallo Middle School had an increase of nine and Montevallo High School increased by 22 students, Fuller said.

Other changes in Montevallo schools this year include a technology grant for the middle school and high school, a freshman forum program to help ease students’ transition between eighth and ninth grades and several new school administrators.

The school system will also start a new program called “My Future Project”, Fuller said.

The goal of the project is for each eighth-grader to write their future story and start making plans to reach their goals. The program will include opportunities for job shadowing, the creation of an electronic portfolio and assistance with college and job applications.

“We want those students to have a reason to stay in school,” Fuller said. “If we have every senior in Montevallo write their future story, develop a path for the future and all graduate, it’s going to enhance our community and every family here.”

Sen. Hank Erwin, R-Montevallo, was also in attendance at the Montevallo Chamber meeting and said he also has an interest in the future of Montevallo schools. He hand-delivered a check for $40,000 to Fuller to divide between the three Montevallo schools.

“I love my schools in Montevallo so much, I want you to take good care of them,” he said.
