I would like to introduce the new faculty and staff at Valley Elementary School — some of them in their own words.

-My name is Erin Hale, and I am one of the new second grade teachers here at Valley Elementary. I am so excited to be given the opportunity to teach here and cannot wait to see what the future holds. I was born and raised in Birmingham and have loved every second of it. I come from an amazing family of six including my parents (Martha and Roger), twin older sisters (Jennifer and Sarah), and a younger brother (Robby). I attended Briarwood from first grade all the way through high school. During high school, I began working with kids coaching soccer in the Upward recreational league and absolutely loved it! I decided to attend Auburn University and pursue a degree in elementary education.

During this time I learned that I didn’t just love working with kids to acheive their potential, but it was my absolute passion!

I began to tutor children in the ELL program in Auburn and work at camps during the summers. Finally, it was time to move back to Birmingham with my wonderful puppy, Carmella and complete my internship at Liberty Park Elementary.

I am very excited about the road ahead, getting to know, help and learn from each student I have the privilege of working with.

-Kay McRae, a new school counselor at Valley Elementary, received her bachelors in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and a doctorate from the University of Montevallo. She has been in education for 20 years. Kay spent 15 years as a classroom teacher, teaching primarily kindergarten and second grades. She most recently was the counselor at Creek View Elementary School. Kay lives in Hoover with her husband and daughter. She is excited about joining the Valley school community.

-My name is Meghan Evans, and I’m a new first grade teacher at Valley. I graduated from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education.

While at the university, I was a Crimsonette for the Million Dollar Band. I enjoy being very active, whether it is dancing, playing softball and volleyball, or playing with my adorable cocker spaniel Clay. I was born, raised, and currently live in McCalla. This is my first year at Valley Elementary, but my second year teaching in Shelby County. I am so excited to be a part of such a wonderful school.
