High school cross country roundup: Oak Mountain teams finish fifth in Invitational

The Oak Mountain High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams kicked the season off Aug. 28 by finishing fifth overall in their respective meets in the Eagles’ 5K Invitational at Heardmont Park.

Travis Roche posted the top time for the Oak Mountain boys as he finished 17th overall with a time of 18:18.85. Emily Stevens led the Oak Mountain girls as she finished 26th overall with a time of 22:40.38.

Will Hamaker of Oak Mountain finished 21st overall in the boys’ competition with his time of 18:24.79. Mason Webber of Pelham came in 29th overall with his time of 18:44.25.

Michael Johnson of Thompson finished 39th with a time of 19:03.13. Thompson finished 12th overall in the boys’ team standings. Pelham came in 13th overall.

Adam Dunkerley of Westminster finished 31st overall with a time of 18:48.41. The Knights came in 14th overall. Briarwood Christian, led by Sam Whorton, finished 16th overall.

Morgan Reynolds of Westminster was the top finisher from Shelby County in the girls’ meet. Reynolds came in 17th overall with a time of 22:15.76.

Sianna Nelson of Thompson finished 21st overall with a time of 22:23.61. The Warriors came in seventh overall in the girls’ team competition.

Erin Landa of Pelham finished 22nd overall with a time of 22:52.62. The Panthers finished 12th overall.

Briarwood Christian, led by Becky Thielman, finished 13th overall in the girls’ team standings.

Briarwood sweeps ACA Trail Race

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams swept the American Christian Academy 2.5-mile Trail Race Aug. 28 at Sokol Park in Tuscaloosa.

Briarwood’s Ramsay Ritchie won the boys’ race with a time of 15:01.60. Teammates Thomas Countess, Trey Long, Griffin Oaks and Edgar Voltz came in 9th-12th, respectively. The Lions’ Patrick Snook finished 14th overall.

Briarwood’s Mary Catherine Ellard won the girls’ race with a time of 18:10.00. Mallory Mathias of Briarwood finished third with a time of 18:36.30.

The Lions’ Kimberly Galloway and Varina Hart came in fifth and sixth, respectively.
