The Pelham Senior Center will be engulfed in tables covered with everything from lamps to toys Sept. 11.

The center is hosting its third yard and from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Senior Center at 50 Racquet Club Parkway.

During the sale, Senior Center volunteers will be selling nearly everything imaginable, said center Program Director Regina Jimenez.

The center has also spent the past several weeks collecting items for the yard sale from center members, local civic organizations and Pelham residents, Jimenez said.

Because many of the Senior Center regulars are members of the Pelham YMCA, the organization has been a major contributor to the yard sale.

“We have been able to collect a lot of stuff right now. It has worked out quite well,” Jimenez said. “A lot of people are trying to clean out their closets right now, and we are welcoming that.

“This is the third yard sale we have had, and it always amazes me that we have a ton of stuff to sell every year,” Jimenez said with a laugh. “The seniors have donated a lot of stuff, the YMCA has donated a lot of stuff and people have been really helping us out.”

All money raised during the yard and bake sale will help the Pelham seniors purchase a 25-passenger bus with hand rails, wide aisles and seat belts to use on day trips and other outings.

The center has currently raised about $14,000 of the estimated $55,000 cost of the bus, and city seniors are looking to move closer to the goal during the bake and yard sale.

“Every little bit helps. The yard sale will help put them closer to their goals,” said Senior Center Director Barbara Roberts. “If they are determined to get a bus, they will work until they get a bus.

“We were fortunate to get some major donations early on,” Roberts added.

Last month, the Pelham Walmart donated $1,000 to the bus fund, and Senior Center officials are also looking into applying for grants to help purchase the vehicle.

The center currently has a 15-passenger van, but it is unreliable and difficult for seniors to enter and exit, said Senior Center Director Barbara Roberts.

Although the center has gathered many items for the yard sale, center officials are still welcoming donations. To donate an item to be sold during the yard sale, bring the item to the Senior Center after noon on Sept. 9.

“When you bring it in, we will price it and get it set to sell,” said Jimenez. “We will be selling anything and everything you can think of.”
