Film fundraiser brings movie masters to Indian Springs

INDIAN SPRINGS — Movie fans will have a unique opportunity to meet and learn from some big-name directors this October at one of Indian Springs School’s biggest fundraising events.

Tickets are now on sale for Film 101 to be held from 5-9:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the school.

Guest speakers will include “Saturday Night Fever” director John Badham, “Baby Mama” writer and director Michael McCullers and Emmy-award winning documentary filmmaker Celia Carey — all alumni of Indian Springs School.

“We are very excited and honored that they’re willing to give back,” said Melanie Kieve, Indian Springs assistant director of development.

The event’s agenda will use the same format as school, including a “school”-wide meeting, classes and a graduation.

Classes will be taught by the guest speakers, the school’s faculty and other alumni, Kieve said.

“The faculty will be talking on areas that they already have expertise in and relate it to the film industry,” Kieve said. “Our choir teacher will be teaching on film scores and our English teacher will talk about Alfred Hitchcock.”

Ten 30-minute classes will be offered and attendees will register for three classes they’d like to attend.

The school makes an effort to keep low teacher-to-student ratios, therefore the event will too, Kieve said. Tickets will be limited so guests can interact with the teachers, she said.

The event will begin with beverages and heavy hors d’oeuvres and the concluding graduation will include coffee, desserts and a silent auction.

Auction items will include vacation homes, art work and spa packages, Kieve said.

Ticket sales and auction profits will benefit the Indian Springs School annual fund, which provides needs-based scholarships and supports student activities, faculty salaries and updates to campus facilities.

The event is open to the community and all attendees must be 21 or older. Tickets are $50 a person.
