The United Way of Central Alabama will be kicking off its 2010 campaign Sept. 16, while giving area volunteers a chance to provide much-needed help to several of Shelby County’s non-profit organizations.

The United Way will hold its 2010 Shelby County kickoff beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Westwood Baptist Church on Alabaster Boulevard near the Colonial Promenade shopping center.

United Way will provide a continental breakfast at the church and explain its 2010 campaign goals before sending out volunteers to complete projects at several area agencies.

After breakfast, volunteers will travel to either Family Connection in Alabaster, the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama, Oak Mountain Missions in Pelham, the Red Cross in Hoover or Shelby Emergency Assistance in Montevallo to complete projects from 9-11 a.m.

To sign up for the campaign kickoff, the breakfast or to learn more about individual projects, visit Handsonbirmingham.org, click on “special events” on the left side of the site and scroll down to “Shelby County United Way Campaign Kick Off” in the project list.

Volunteers must RSVP for the projects and the breakfast by Tuesday, Sept. 14.
