High school volleyball roundup: Briarwood sweeps Chelsea

The Briarwood Christian School volleyball team swept rival Chelsea 25-10, 25-13, 25-16 in a Class 5A, Area 7 volleyball match Sept. 9.

Katie Briley led the Lions (6-6 overall, 2-0 in Class 5A, Area 7) with 12 kills and six blocks.

Logan Nasworthy added eight kills and Kate Carter recorded eight kills. Claire Carter and Lauren Palmer finished with two kills each.

Briley, Nasworthy and Adeline Reiser finished with two blocks each. Nasworthy and Lizzie Baumbach recorded five digs each.

Reiser led Briarwood with 33 assists. Briley led the Lions with four service aces. Carter, Nasworthy and Baumbach finished with three aces each.

Spain Park sweeps Homewood

The Jaguars improved to 12-9 overall and 2-1 in Class 6A, Area 10 play with a 25-16, 26-24, 25-13 sweep of Homewood.

Katie Best led Spain Park with eight kills. Best also recorded six digs, three blocks and two service aces.

Kylie Beaubien added seven kills and three blocks. Kendall Carlis finished with five kills, four blocks and seven digs.

Sydney Fritz recorded five digs and two aces. Mary Grace Drum added three assists and two aces.

McKenna McLain finished with a team-high eight digs and 16 assists.

Cornerstone sweeps Autauga

Cornerstone Christian improved to 5-0 in Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A, Region 1 play with a 25-7, 25-14, 25-19 sweep of Autauga Academy.

Kailey Goodwin led the Chargers with eight kills. Kallen Morrison recorded a team-high 11 assists.

Evangel sweeps Hope

Elizabeth Ragland led the Lightning with nine service aces, seven kills and five digs in a 25-8, 25-9, 25-20 sweep of rival Hope.

Kate Foster added a team-high eight assists and four digs for Evangel, which improved to 8-0 overall.

Rainey Ketcham recorded six kills, four service aces and two blocks.

Vincent splits in doubleheader

Randee Isbell led Vincent with 14 kills in a 27-25, 23-25, 15-10 win over Fayetteville.

Jessica Posey added 12 kills. Amber Shaw added nine kills and Michele Brasher finished with six kills.

Isbell and Shaw led the Yellow Jackets (3-5) with 14 service aces each. Letha Burns and Joleen George added 10 aces.

Shaw recorded a team-high 22 digs. Posey added 15 digs.

Shaw and Posey led the Yellow Jackets with one kill each in a 25-7, 25-14 loss to Thorsby.

George led Vincent with one service ace. Isbell led the Yellow Jackets with two assists.

Shaw recorded a team-high six digs. George added five digs. Brasher, Destanie Howard and Posey added two digs each.

Calera drops matches against Shades Mountain, Montevallo

A’Kia Harris led the Eagles with five kills and eight digs in a 22-25, 25-22, 9-15 loss to Shades Mountain Christian.

Kellie Rasmussen added five service aces. La’Jacqueline Morgan finished with 11 digs.

Amber Sherman recorded nine digs.

The Eagles also fell 14-25, 18-25 to Montevallo.
