Dr. James Glasgow Alston Sr.

Dr. James Glasgow Alston Sr. DMD, age 75, passed away Sept. 10, 2010 at a local hospital.

Dr. Alston was born Jan. 25, 1935 in Sylacauga. He graduated from Shades Valley High School in Birmingham. He attended Auburn University and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Birmingham Southern College. He was awarded a Doctorate of Medical Dentistry from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in 1960.

Dr. Alston practiced dentistry for over 45 years, the majority of that time in Columbiana, Alabama. Dr. Alston was a member of many professional and civic organizations. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sandra C. Alston; sons, James G. Alston Jr. (Kecia) and Robert L. Alston (Laura); his daughter Catherine L. Walton (Tom); and Carol Lorraine Lacey, mother of his children; his step-daughters Tammy Seale (William) and Amanda Dover (Charles); his sisters Olna Woodall (Bob) and Bonnie Spear (Roger). Dr. Alston also had eight grandchildren, Alston Walton, Lacey Walton, Mattie Alston, Will Alston, Meagan Seale, Mallory Seale, Emily Dover and Jacob Dover.

He is preceded in death by his father, Winston Dixon Alston and mother, Mae Glasgow Alston and step-mother Mary Alice Alston.

Visitation was held from 1:30-2:45 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Bolton Funeral Home in Columbiana, where graveside services immediately followed at Pinelawn Gardens at 3 p.m.
