Grover Sewell Gibson Jr, age 78, passed away on Sept. 11, 2010 at his residence. “Junior,” as Mr. Gibson was called, was born in Vincent and employed with Beanit Mills and at Alabama Planting Company for 22 years. He retired from Shelby Steel, Inc. He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Vincent. He was a dedicated Christian and loved his Church and was well known for his public prayers. He was a wonderful husband, father and papa to six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 11 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Vincent where burial will follow at Vincent Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sept. 13 from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

Mr. Gibson’s parents, Grover and Lola Gibson; son, Ralph Gibson; and brothers, Gilbert Gibson (Leverne) and Mack Gibson; and sister, Betty Joyce Gibson preceded him in death.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Gibson; sons, Dennis Gibson of Vincent and Herbert “Sonny” Gibson (Sandra) of Harpersville; sisters, Mary Ann Huskey of Sylacauga and Bernice Murphy (George) of Vincent; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were the Deacons of The First Baptist Church of Vincent. Honorary pallbearers were Carlton Bearden, Gary Smith, Ray McAllister and Jerry Waldrop. Dr. Darrell Wood and Rev. Wayne Lowe officiating. Curtis and Son Funeral Home of Childersburg directing.
