Coosa Valley pounds Chambers Academy

The Coosa Valley Academy football team picked up a 36-7 win Sept. 17 over Chambers Academy.

John Bullen led the Rebels (3-1) with two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown.

Coosa Valley coach Vince DiLorenzo was pleased with the win over previously unbeaten Chambers Academy.

“We dominated the game against a very good football team,” DiLorenzo said. “This was a really big win. We knew they had a good football team and that we had to play at a high level.”

Cody Garrett scored the first points for Coosa Valley with his 27-yard field goal with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter.

Bullen scored his first touchdown of the game on a 25-yard scoring run in the second quarter.

Tanner Wood added a 33-yard rushing touchdown late in the second quarter to give Coosa Valley a 16-0 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

Bullen scored his second touchdown midway through the third quarter on a 12-yard scoring run. Hunter Winslett also scored on a 25-yard reverse in the third quarter.

Sam Bullard reeled in a 35-yard pass from Bullen with 10:38 left in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the Rebels.

Bullen completed 9-of-13 passes with a touchdown and an interception. Wood caught three passes for 89 yards and a score.

Bullen also rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries. Ryan Batson added 66 yards on eight carries.

Batson led Coosa Valley with 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. Winslett recovered a fumble and registered nine tackles.

Myles Varner and Corey Burton recorded eight tackles.

Coosa Valley travels to Jackson Academy for an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A, Region 1 contest Sept. 24.
