Montevallo High School first-year head football coach Jamie Williams picked up his first win with the Bulldogs as Montevallo picked up a 30-16 win Sept. 17 over Sipsey Valley.

Senior running back R.J. Scaife led the way for the Bulldogs with 244 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries.

“R.J. is our heart and soul,” Williams said. “He’s our emotional leader and a phenomenal player.”

Taylor Burr completed a 14-yard scoring strike to Korey Cunningham for the Bulldogs’ first touchdown in the first quarter.

Brett Gray added a 22-yard field goal in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs (1-3, 1-2 in Class 3A, Region 4) erased a 16-10 halftime deficit to record their first region victory.

Burr scored on a 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Scaife added back-to-back rushing touchdowns of 4 yards and 41 yards to seal the win.

Montevallo finished with 308 total yards on offense in the victory.
