Eugene Fulghum, age 80, a resident of Chelsea, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, at Mt. Signal Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Signal Cemetery, with Rev. Leonard Irvin and Bro. Eric Fulghum officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 26, from 1-3 p.m. at the church.
Mr. Fulghum served for two years in active duty at Fort Belvoir, Va. He then had six years of Reserve duty, the most significant duty as a medical tech. He was honorably discharged from his assignment to the 3164 USAR Control Group. He retired from the Shelby County Board of Education in 1990.
Mr. Fulghum is preceded in death by his wife, Pernie V. Fulghum. Mr. Fulghum is survived by his children, Fredrick Eugene Fulghum, Karen Etress and Anita Johnson: eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Maurice Fulghum: and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
