Members of the 1978 Calera High School Marching Eagles will reconnect during this year’s homecoming activities.

This year’s homecoming has all the ingredients of becoming one of the most memorable. Activities have been planned for alumni and affiliates of Calera High School — past, present and future.

The Calera High School Alumni Association meets at the high school the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. All alumni are invited to join them in planning the third-annual Calera Alumni Reunion.

The Calera Alumni Band is making an effort to contact all alumni and band boosters to attend this year’s event with past band directors, i.e. John Prince. Sherry Pugh, alumni band member and retired teacher, remembers the giving spirit she received in school.

“My band director, teachers and principals gave me so much joy that I felt I needed to teach in Calera to give back to this town what was given me,” Pugh said. “This reunion is a way to thank those special people.”

Oct. 8, alumni are invited to attend the pep rally at 2 p.m. in the school gym. At 7 p.m. an alumni band ensemble will lead the alma mater during pre-game entertainment (contact a reunion worker if you would like to participate).

Plans for Saturday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the high school include tours of the school, Hall of Memories (submit memorabilia to Melanie Ashley), a slide show including football games from the ’70s with band half time shows- CDs will be available for purchase. Submit photos to billsthisnthat@aol.com or call 991-8595.

A hot dog lunch will be served ($6). Pre-orders accepted by check payable to Calera Alumni Association, 1924 7th Ave., Calera, AL. 35040.

Saturday’s event also includes band activities, flag football, a mix n’ mingle session with recordings from the ’70s, Joe’s Place concerts (CDs available for purchase) and alumni cheerleaders, majorettes and flag corp entertainment.
