High school volleyball roundup: Oak Mountain falls in Over the Mountain semifinals

The Oak Mountain High School volleyball team advanced to the championship bracket of the Over the Mountain tournament at Hoover High School before falling to McGill-Toolen Catholic School of Mobile in the semifinals Sept. 25.

The Eagles dropped the semifinal match 25-21, 17-25, 2-15 to McGill-Toolen.

Oak Mountain (39-14) defeated Mary Montgomery and St. Benedict of Memphis, Tenn., in pool play to advance to the championship bracket. The Eagles defeated Guntersville in the quarterfinals.

Samantha Skinner led the Eagles with 44 kills, 24 digs and six blocks in the tournament. Chelsea Payne recorded a team-high 64 assists to go along with 11 kills and 16 digs.

Sara Goodwin finished with 24 kills, 20 digs and five service aces. Emily Cosgrove recorded 13 kills, seven blocks and five digs.

Marisa Reese contributed 23 digs. Hannah Beach finished with 18 digs.

Pelham picked up wins over Arab and Evangelical Christian of Memphis, Tenn., in pool play  to advance to the championship bracket before falling to Guntersville in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The Panthers fell 16-25, 21-25 to Guntersville.

Sydney Days led the Panthers (21-18) with a team-high 74 assists in the tournament.

Bradleigh Smith recorded 12 kills on the final day of the tournament. Alexis Veal finished with 17 digs.

Courtney Rawden and Katey Gustafson recorded one service ace each.
