MONTEVALLO — Three people were shot Sept. 29 at approximately 10 p.m. at the Scott Village housing complex in Montevallo, according to police.

Montevallo Police Chief Steve Holt said the shootings followed an altercation between a few men in the parking lot of the complex. When a fight broke out, one man tried to leave in his vehicle and hit another car on his way out of the complex.

The fender bender drew an even larger crowd of neighbors and onlookers and the fight continued between the men.

At that time one of the men began firing into the crowd, Holt said.

Three were injured in the shooting. Holt said he believes no injuries were life threatening and it appears they were treated and released.

The Montevallo Police made an arrest shortly after the shooting with the help of the Shelby County Sheriff’s office, the Calera Police and the University of Montevallo Police.

“All that help plus a lot of cooperation from the community helped us make a timely arrest,” Holt said.
