The forward pass is an option for offenses in football, but Shelby County managed just fine without it Oct. 1.

The Wildcats (2-4, 2-2 in Class 5A, Region 5) ran the ball on 50 of their 52 offensive plays and rolled up 357 rushing yards in a 39-20 road win over Moody (0-6, 0-4 in Class 5A, Region 5).

Junior running back Brent Wooley led the rushing surge, accumulating 178 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. Denzel Williams added to the attack with 124 yards on 20 carries and three scores.

Sophomore Chris Suttles added 47 yards on five carries.

Williams also completed a 33-yard pass — the only completion of the night for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats finished with 390 yards of total offense and 17 first downs.

Shelby County hosts Sylacauga in another Class 5A, Region 5 contest Oct. 8.
