Fred Newton Martin, age 73 of Pelham, passed away the morning of Oct. 4, 2010. He was born Aug. 14, 1937 in Shelby County, the second son of Isaac Newton Martin and Alice Frances Massey. He was employed at J.C. Acton Service Station and Garage for 35 years and he later retired from Essex Crane. He was a United States Army Veteran. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Joyce Martin; son, Michael Lynn Martin; daughter, Jackie Martin Hodo; and brother, Grady Martin.

He is survived by daughters, Joanne (Terrell) Averette and Etta Joe Carroll; sons, Mark Martin and Freddy Martin; grandchildren, Madison, Amanda, Kristen and Randall; three great-grandchildren; sister, Susan (Bill) Wright; brothers, Gerald Martin and Jim (Sandra) Martin; sister-in-law, Estelle Martin; Shirley Morrison; special neighbors, Carl Hall and Mike and Anne Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held at Charter Funeral Home (Calera) on Tuesday, Oct. 5 from 6-8 p.m. (family at 5 p.m.). Graveside service will be held at Patton’s Chapel Cemetery at 11 a.m. in Hoover on Wednesday, Oct. 6. Pastor Ken Stroup officiating, Alabaster Church of God.
