High school volleyball roundup: Spain Park defeats Clay-Chalkville

The Spain Park High School volleyball team defeated Clay-Chalkville in high school volleyball action Oct. 7.

Sydney Fritz led the Jaguars with 13 kills in Spain Park’s 25-10, 23-25, 21-25, 25-14, 15-10 win over Clay-Chalkville.

Fritz added three blocks. Katie Best contributed 12 kills and five digs for the Jaguars, who improved to 20-24 overall.

Kendall Carlis added seven kills and three digs. Natalie Celia finished with four kills and five digs.

Madison Mulkey chipped in a team-high 27 assists and two service aces.

Thompson sweeps Tuscaloosa County

Haley Davenport led the Warriors with nine kills in Thompson’s 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 sweep of Tuscaloosa County.

Davenport added five blocks and two service aces in the victory.

Hailey Schatz added seven kills, three blocks and two service aces.

Sonia Acosta led the Warriors with a team-high 17 assists and five service aces.

Chelsea swept in two matches

The Chelsea High School volleyball team dropped matches against Hewitt-Trussville and rival Shelby County.

Emily Handley led the Hornets with six kills and 16 digs in a 25-22, 24-26, 16-18 loss to Hewitt-Trussville.

Samantha Colyer added five kills. Jesse Vohler chipped in a team-high 10 digs and 11 assists.

Handley led Chelsea with eight kills in a 23-25, 25-13, 10-15 loss to Shelby County.

Colyer added seven kills, six digs and two blocks. Vohler added a team-high 15 assists.

Hope Christian sweeps First Assembly

Kelsey Thompson led the Eagles with 10 kills in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 sweep of First Assembly.

Hannah Lane and Brooke Machen chipped in five kills each.

Lane and Melinda Mahan led Hope Christian with three service aces each. Mahan led the Eagles with five assists.
