Oak Mountain falls in semifinals of Blalock tournament

The Oak Mountain High School volleyball team dropped a match with McGill-Toolen Catholic School of Mobile in the Gold Division semifinals of the Margaret Blalock Memorial tournament Oct. 9 at Homewood High School.

The Eagles fell 25-9, 27-29, 14-16 in the Gold Division semifinal match against McGill-Toolen.

Oak Mountain defeated Grissom 25-23, 25-23 in the Gold Division quarterfinals.

Samantha Skinner led the Eagles (48-18) with 27 kills and 13 digs in the Gold Division tournament.

Emily Cosgrove added 11 kills. Hannah Beach chipped in nine kills and six digs. Lauren Dasher finished with eight kills and two blocks.

Chelsea Payne recorded a team-high 51 assists to go along with nine digs and four service aces.

Pelham fell to Huntsville in the Gold Division quarterfinals.

Porsha Tolbert led the Panthers (29-24) with 24 kills, 17 digs and seven service aces in the tournament.

Dana Allen added 22 kills and 19 digs. Elsa Sims contributed a team-high 52 assists.

Spain Park dropped a match with Oxford 25-17, 17-25, 9-15 in the quarterfinals of the Silver Division tournament.

Katie Best led the Jaguars with 24 kills, nine blocks, 17 digs and two service aces in the tournament.

Sydney Fritz added 15 kills and 20 digs. Kendall Carlis recorded 12 blocks. Mary Grace Drum finished with eight service aces.

Madison Mulkey chipped in a team-high 40 assists. McKenna McLain added 18 assists.
