Drivers on Alabama 119 and U.S. 31 in Alabaster Oct. 16-17 must take a detour around one the city’s busiest intersections, as crews will be completing repair work on the railroad crossing at the intersection of the two roads.

The closure will last all weekend, and will begin at 7 a.m. Oct. 16 and end at 8 p.m. Oct. 17.

During the closure, traffic traveling from U.S. 31 to Alabama 119 will be re-routed to First Street Southwest behind Alabaster City Hall, said Alabaster Mayor David Frings.

“It will be a little inconvenient for two days, but we will have a much better railroad crossing when they’re done,” Frings said. “They have assured us that it will be ready again before rush hour on Monday.

“They have repaved several crossings in the previous weeks, and I think this is the only one they still have to repair,” Frings added.
