Kingwood falls to Morgan Academy

The Kingwood Christian School football team fell 28-6 to Morgan Academy in an Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 3A, Region 2 contest Oct. 15.

The loss sets up a win-or-go-home situation in the Lions’ final Region 2 game Oct. 22 against Tuscaloosa Academy as the Lions seek to claim the final playoff spot in the region.

Senior quarterback Kevin Woody scored the only touchdown in the loss to Morgan Academy. Woody scored on a 47-yard run with 10:51 remaining in the first quarter.

Morgan Academy scored a touchdown in each quarter to seal the win. Leading 14-6 in the third quarter, Morgan Academy blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to put the game out of reach.

Woody led the Lions (6-3 overall, 4-3 in AISA Class 3A, Region 2) with 133 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. Woody’s 133 rushing yards pushed him across the 1,000-yard mark for the season.

Woody also completed 12-of-23 passes for 160 yards with two interceptions.

Tyrone Pope rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries. Pope added five receptions for 70 yards.

Peyton Sumrall, Moses Peters, Ben Littrell and Pope finished with six tackles each. Dalton Sparks recorded two sacks and David Fillingim recovered a fumble in the loss.
