FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Alabaster Police Department is working to clear a train blocking a pair of intersections near the Thompson Sixth Grade Center and Buck Creek Park.

Officers were working to move the train at about 2:50 p.m., according to a Police Department dispatcher.

“We do have a train blocking a few intersections, and we are trying to solve that now,” the dispatcher said.

The train is blocking the railroad crossing on Alabama 119 near the Thompson Sixth Grade Center and Thompson Intermediate School, and the crossing near Buck Creek Park and Food World on Sixth Avenue Southwest.

The train is causing heavy traffic jams near the schools, which dismissed for the day about the same time the train stopped.
