Wilsonville

Roy J. Wood, age 86, a resident of Wilsonville, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, at Columbiana Church of Christ with Ministers Nic Weymouth and Robert Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama National Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home.

Mr. Wood was born on Oct. 6, 1924 in Bessemer, to Lois and Charlie Wood. He served his country in the Navy during World War II, as a cook on a destroyer escort in the Pacific. After the war ended, he continued to serve in the Navy, Naval Reserve and National Guard for a combined total of 20 years service. In 1987, he retired from Alabama Power after working with them for 20 years.

Mr. Wood was a faithful and active Christian. Two congregations were closest to his heart, The Childersburg Church of Christ where he was honored to serve as a Deacon and later as an Elder and the Columbiana Church of Christ. He spent much of his life serving those congregations to the best of his ability.

He had many interest, including trade tokens and currency, sailing ships and steamboats, Alabama history, clocks, woodworking, fishing and Alabama football.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eunice Wood; daughter, Cheryl Dupree; son-in-law, Frank Dupree; grandson, Nic Weymouth; granddaughter-in-law, Liz Weymouth; one great-grandchild on the way; three step grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; one surviving sister, Olene Wiginton; a multitude of nephews and nieces and countless brothers and sisters in Christ and friends Please sign online condolences at Boltonfuneralhome.com.
