Spain Park High School junior Brandon Hazouri won the biggest race of his high school cross country career Nov. 13 as he captured the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A individual championship at Oakville Indian Mounds Park near Moulton.

Hazouri, who won his third consecutive race, beat the field of the best Class 6A runners in the state of Alabama by 17 seconds with his time of 15:45.12. Hazouri broke his personal best time by more than 18 seconds in the state championship meet.

Hazouri won the Husky Challenge in Trussville two weeks ago to cap a spectacular regular season and finished first last week at a Class 6A section meet in Hoover.

Fellow Spain Park junior Steven Crain joined Hazouri in the top 10 at the Class 6A championship meet as he finished sixth overall in individual standings with his time of 16:26.99.

The Jaguars came in 10th in the Class 6A boys’ team standings at the championship meet.

Spain Park finished one spot ahead of Oak Mountain, which came in 11th in the Class 6A boys’ team standings. Oak Mountain junior Will Hamaker finished 22nd overall in individual standings with his time of 16:58.11.

Thompson freshman Michael Johnson, running as an individual, came in 72nd overall in individual standings with his time of 17:52.05.

Pelham seventh-grader finishes fourth in Class 6A girls’ meet

Pelham seventh-grader Mary Grace Stozier led the Panthers as she finished fourth in individual standings in her first-ever Class 6A state championship meet.

Stozier crossed the finish line in 19:07.05, which put her just under three seconds behind the second-place finisher. The Panthers came in sixth in the Class 6A girls’ team standings.

Pelham finished one spot behind Oak Mountain, which came in fifth in the Class 6A girls’ team standings.

Oak Mountain eighth-grader Haley Davidson led the Eagles with her time of 19:32.03, which placed her 12th overall in Class 6A individual standings.

Spain Park senior Kristen Spence, running as an individual, came in 19th overall in Class 6A individual standings with her time of 19:59.92.

Thompson freshman Anna Puckett, also running as an individual, finished 39th overall in individual standings with her time of 20:37.57.

Briarwood Christian girls finish third in Class 5A state championship meet

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ cross country team finished third in Class 5A team standings at the state championship meet.

Mallory Mathias led the Lions with her sixth-place finish after crossing the finish line with a time of 19:44. Mary Catherine Ellard came in two spots behind Mathias at eighth overall with her time of 19:57.

Becky Theilman came in 20th overall with her time of 21:05. Teammate Varina Hart finished 23rd overall with her time of 21:18.

Chelsea finished 12th in the Class 5A girls’ team standings. The Hornets were led by Cheyenne Thompson, who finished 13th overall in individual standings with her time of 20:27.

Shelby County sophomore Jacqueline Head, running as an individual, finished seventh overall in individual standings with her time of 19:48.

The Briarwood Christian School boys’ cross country team finished fifth in team standings at the Class 5A state championship meet.

Ramsay Ritchie led the Lions as he came in third overall in individual standings with his time of 16:32.53. Teammate Trey Long finished 20th overall in individual standings with his time of 17:42.59.

Chelsea finished 12th in the Class 5A team standings. The Hornets were led by Matt Hobbs, who came in 23rd overall in individual standings with his time of 17:49.18.

Indian Springs boys and girls compete in Class 3A state championship meet

The Indian Springs boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Class 3A state championship meet.

The Indian Springs boys finished 12th in team standings.

Joseph Fisher led the Indian Springs as he finished 89th overall in individual standings with his time of 21:07.90. Teammate Blake Senn finished 90th overall with his time of 21:08.88.

The Indian Springs girls finished 11th in team standings at the Class 3A state championship meet.

Erin McMinn led the Indian Springs girls as she crossed the finish line 27th overall in individual standings with her time of 21:32.89.

Westminster runner finishes sixth in Class 1A-2A state championship meet

Westminster School at Oak Mountain junior Adam Dunkerley finished sixth overall in the Class 1A-2A boys’ state championship meet.

Dunkerley, running as an individual, crossed the finish line with a time of 17:27.02.

Morgan Reynolds led the Westminster girls as she finished 20th overall in individual standings with her time of 22:37.60.
