GIRLS

The Chelsea High School girls’ basketball team dropped its season opener Nov. 19 following a 57-52 loss to visiting Pell City.

Allie Luster led the Hornets (0-1) with 16 points.

Amanda Mock added 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Oak Mountain defeats Clay-Chalkville

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ basketball team remained unbeaten Nov. 19 following a 51-40 win over Clay-Chalkville.

Lay Watts led the Eagles (5-0) with 14 points. Watts also grabbed 12 rebounds.

Maegen McDanal added 10 points and seven boards.

Thompson drops first game of season against Bessemer City

The Thompson High School girls’ basketball team lost its first game of the season Nov. 19 following a 62-45 loss to visiting Bessemer City.

KaDeisha Stowes led the Warriors (2-1) with 16 points.

Kat Cingoranelli added 11 points.

Vincent falls to Childersburg

The Vincent High School girls’ basketball team fell to visiting Childersburg 48-32 in its first home game of the season Nov. 19.

Kiara Cohill led the Yellow Jackets (1-1) with 17 points.

Evangel defeats First Assembly in conference opener

The Evangel Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated First Assembly Christian 56-22 in its Alabama Christian Sports Conference opener Nov. 19.

Katherine Stockman had 11 points in the first quarter points and Whitney Thorpe added eight to lead Evangel Christian (2-0) to a 25-2 lead after the opening period.

Stockman finished with a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds.

Abby Letson added 16 points for Evangel.  Thorpe finished with nine points. Rainey Ketcham chipped in seven points, seven assists and six steals for the Lightning.

BOYS

Chelsea defeats Pell City in season opener

The Chelsea High School boys’ basketball team opened its season Nov. 19 with a 65-33 win over visiting Pell City.

Dantavius Washington led the Hornets (1-0) with 19 points. Washington added six rebounds.

Jake Ganus chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

Thompson defeats Bessemer City

Thompson High School defeated visiting Bessemer City 77-71 in boys’ basketball action Nov. 19.

Demarcus Threatt led the Warriors (2-0) with 22 points.

Jaylon Jones added 20 points. Threatt and Jones pulled down 10 rebounds each.

Ryan Spence chipped in 12 points.

Vincent defeats Childersburg

The Vincent High School boys’ basketball team picked up a 85-52 win over Childersburg in its first home game of the season Nov. 19.

Keyon Wallace and Bruce Hamilton led the Yellow Jackets (2-0) with 16 points each in the victory.

Wallace led Vincent with 13 rebounds. Hamilton grabbed 12 boards.

Anterio Rogers added 13 points. Marquis Torbert chipped in 12 points.

Westminster falls to Oak Grove

The Westminster School at Oak Mountain boys’ basketball team dropped its second game in as many nights Nov. 19 following a 87-53 loss on the road at Oak Grove.

Adam Gurley led the Knights (3-3) with 25 points.

Jeffrey Stanford added 20 points in the loss.

Evangel defeats First Assembly

The Evangel Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated visiting First Assembly Christian 65-40 in its Alabama Christian Sports Conference opener Nov. 19.

DaJon Townson led the Lightning (1-0) with 21 points and four steals. Mark Underwood added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Marcus Johnson led Evangel with 12 rebounds.

Hope Christian tops New Life

The Hope Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated New Life Christian 56-26 in a home contest Nov. 19.

Pete Thomason led the Eagles (2-0) with 20 points and 16 rebounds.

Seth Burnham, Blake Thomas and Brandon Fuller added seven points each. Burnham grabbed 11 rebounds.

Caleb Douglas lead the team with six steals and Terrance Moore had five assists.
